PRESS RELEASE - New opinion poll PDF Print E-mail

A majority of the public would like a change in the law to allow a woman to choose early abortion and they accept later abortions.

Doctors for a Woman’s Choice on Abortion celebrate quietly with millions of women and their families on Sunday April 27th, the fortieth anniversary of the implementation of the 1967 Abortion Act, arguably one of the most successful public health measures in the last century.

DWCA is releasing for the first time an opinion poll which asked some new questions. Firstly, whether respondents thought that ‘the law should be changed to provide a woman with the right to choose to have an abortion within the first 12 weeks of pregnancy after consultation with a doctor’. Of those who answered this question 81% agreed with such a change in the law.
